Hi, I’m Severin Bucher, a senior software engineer based in Washington D.C. I’ve spent over 10 years building secure backend services and frontend systems that run at scale. Most of that work lives in the AWS ecosystem, where I hold the Solutions Architect certification, and lately a lot of it is about using agentic AI and LLM workflows to ship complex changes faster.

What I Do

At Property Meld I work across the full stack. I sit close to the product teams, turning business requirements into software that holds up under load: high-throughput backend features in Django on AWS, and the React frontends that sit on top of them. AI development assistants are part of how I work day to day, and they earn their keep most on the larger, fiddlier changes.

Before that, I built high-performance microservices in Node.js, TypeScript, and Go for the core client-facing platforms at Ringier Medien Schweiz.

My Background

My route into software ran through hardware. I started out as a mechanical engineer and CNC programmer, automating multi-step workflows with Python and building data-driven predictive-maintenance models before moving into software full time. That background is why I tend to think about a system as a whole rather than in isolated parts, and I filled in the fundamentals with study in C, low-level data structures, and algorithms.

Why This Blog?

I started this blog to write down what I learn building web applications: the migrations that went sideways, the performance problems worth remembering, the tools that turned out to be worth the switch. Mostly it’s a record for me. If it saves someone else an afternoon, even better.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Write-ups on backend architecture, React, and cloud infrastructure
  • Real problems from real projects, and how they got solved
  • Notes on keeping code maintainable as it scales
  • What’s actually working (and not) with AI-assisted development

I’m always looking to learn, collaborate, and exchange ideas with like-minded developers. If any of my posts resonate with you, feel free to reach out!

Let’s build better web experiences together.
